Roberts trade talk heats up for Cubs
Undaunted by Brian Roberts' name appearing in the Mitchell Report and his subsequent admission to using steroids, Cubs GM Jim Hendry is set to acquire the Orioles second baseman, according to reports on Chicagosports.com. The reported deal has the Cubs acquiring Roberts in exchange for infielder Ronny Cedeno, and young pitchers Sean Gallagher and Sean Marshall.
Dunston falls 400 votes shy of Hall of Fame
Shawon Dunston and his family waited eagerly around their telephone Tuesday in their Phoenix-area home hoping to get a call from the Baseball Hall of Fame. That call never came. The Cubs could learn a lot about toughness from Brewers manager Ned Yost, who tripped and fell during his Tuesday run along the lakefront in Chicago, broke his collarbone, rubbed some dirt on it, and continued his five-mile trek. Refusing to wear a sling recommended by his doctor, Yost was in the dugout Tuesday night managing his club just a few short hours after taking the vicious spill.
Mackowiak hopes postponement doesn’t cool him off
The White Sox game against the Tigers was canceled Thursday about two hours before the scheduled first pitch due to an impending storm. The night off couldn't come at a better time for ailing players like Jermaine Dye and Jim Thome. Utility player Rob Mackowiak doesn't want any games off, however, for he is in the middle of a two-game hit streak, tying the longest of his career.
