Tightwad Bears swindle Smith, Angelo with extensions

Since losing Super Bowl XLI, Bears fans have been clamoring for the team to give head coach Lovie Smith a contract extension. General manager Jerry Angelo's compensation was also not appropriate for the leader of a Super Bowl team. The Bears were taking a beating in the papers, being labeled as a cheap, second-class team. Wednesday they ponied up. Sort of.

‘Old, bitter and crotchety’ Veterans Committee keeps Santo out of Hall again

Major League Baseball's Veterans Committee proved inept and worthless once again Tuesday, failing to elect a single member to the Hall of Fame for the third straight time. While it's not obvious whether or not the patrons of the Tucson, Ariz., Olive Garden were Sox fans, after Monday's tirade accompanied his soup, salad and breadsticks lunch, the restaurant-goers certainly do hate Pierzynski.

Uribe debates what to do with all those frequent flyer miles

While the worst of his legal battles involving a shooting in his homeland seem to be behind him, White Sox shortstop Juan Uribe may have to make more trips to the Dominican Republic as the 2007 season wears on. Always the optimist, Uribe is focusing on the frequent flyer miles he'll continue to rack up while the legal system takes it course.

Prior to pitch underhanded in spring training

Arm and shoulder problems have been an all too familiar refrain for Mark Prior over the past few seasons. However, the Cubs are using a new approach to keep the porcelain-based starter healthy this year: Pitching underhand.
