Bulls sum up season with disappointing loss to Nets
After the Bulls put the cherry on top of their up-and-down season with a disappointing, yet not surprising 106-97 loss to the Nets in New Jersey Wednesday night, Scott Skiles was all smiles.
Bears fine Vasher for wearing White Sox hat
Finding yet another way to swindle cash back into the stingy franchise, Bears CEO Ted Phillips slapped Nathan Vasher with a $100,000 fine after he saw the cornerback working out at Halas Hall in a Chicago White Sox cap. Phillips got the idea after he heard of the NFL's fine to Brian Urlacher for wearing a "Vitamin Water" hat during a media session during Super Bowl week. Urlacher's a partner in the company, which is a direct competitor of Gatorade, a $75 million NFL sponsor.
Sox laid low by Rangers
A scoreless first few innings to start, a random solo home run in the middle and a bullpen collapse at the end. Tuesday night's game had just about all the markings of a typical White Sox loss, with one exception: Sammy Sosa.
Sosa, Guillen feud heating up
Texas Rangers outfielder Sammy Sosa, who was booed loudly by the US Cellular Field Tuesday night, answered back with a three-run homer in the eighth inning. Sosa's ever-present hop, stutter-step before each base, and kisses to the camera in the dugout followed, and were not ignored by Sox manager Ozzie Guillen.
Cubs drop long, boring game as Pie debuts
It was quite an unusual sight at Wrigley Field on Tuesday afternoon--not only were the Cubs riding a one-game winning streak, but the organization trotted out four homegrown players in their starting lineup for perhaps the first time in team history. Felix Pie--making his big league debut in center--joined former Cubs farmhands Ronny Cedeno, Matt Murton and Ryan Theriot as starters. The apparent youth movement came much to the dismay of Cubs general manager Jim Hendry, who loves mediocre, aging veterans.
Cubs bullpen plays hot potato with another lead
Despite another awful outing, starting pitcher Carlos Zambrano stood to pick up his second win of the season Wednesday night in Atlanta after the Cubs made an uncharacteristic comeback, staking him to one-run seventh inning lead. Reliever Scott Eyre, however, had other ideas.
Buehrle throws no-hitter
Mark Buehrle got his first win of the year Wednesday night, and it was a doozy.
