Jacque Jones, Daryle Ward sign on to play Dustyball in Cincy

Dusty Baker is at it once again. The former Cubs manager is not sending Mark Prior out to the mound for yet another inning, late in the game with his team up 10, and he's not scolding the fans for their incessant booing of LaTroy Hawkins. He is, however, signing some of his favorite 30-somethings to contracts -- like former Cubs Daryle Ward and Jacque Jones -- who inked minor league deals with Baker's Reds Thursday to serve as Baker's '09 versions of Lenny Harris and Freddie Bynum.

Williams pawns Sox World Series trophy to get center fielder

In an effort to improve his roster without adding payroll, White Sox G.M. Kenny Williams has pawned his team's 2005 World Series trophy to free up more cash to sign an athletic center fielder.

Rich Hill, Michael Wuertz, finally shown the door

Lefty Rich Hill showed promise in 2007 when he went 11-8 for the Cubs, helping them reach the playoffs, before suffering a bout of "Steve Blass Disease" at the beginning of the '08 season, in which he inexplicably couldn’t find the plate. He has never been the same since. Reliever Michael Wuertz, on the other hand, has always sucked. Both were shown the door on Monday, as the Cubs traded Hill to Andy MacPhail's, "Former Cubs Rehabilitation Project" in Baltimore, and Wuertz was sent to Oakland for two minor league stiffs.

Blackhawks take act back on the road

The Blackhawks began their two week road-trip with a victory Wednesday night, overcoming the Mighty Disney Anaheim Ducks of Anaheim by a score of 3-2. The Blackhawks needed the boost after going 6-6 in the lackluster month of January, including a drubbing by the rival Red Wings at the Winter Classic.
