The Seattle Times is reporting today the Cubs have reached a deal with the Mariners that sends troubled outfielder Milton Bradley to Seattle in exchange for pitcher Carlos Silva. While Cubs fans will be quick to rejoice the departure of Bradley, Silva brings a new set of problems to Chicago: He’s really bad at playing baseball.
Silva went 4-15, 6.46 in 2008, and was 1-3, 8.60 in eight games in ’09. He spent most of last year on the DL, which means he’ll fit in well with many of the Cubs current pitchers. He has two years remaining on his contract, which pays him $25 million including a $2 million buyout for 2012.
The end of the Milton Bradley era in Chicago is surely a welcomed one for all. For his part, Bradley has already promised to be on his best behavior in Seattle. Insiders predict Bradley’s eighth fresh start with a new team might be just what he needs.
“I’m thrilled to be getting a chance with another new team,” said Bradley as he packed his bags for the Northwest. “Seattle’s going to be much different for me than it was in Montreal, Cleveland, L.A., Oakland, San Diego, Texas and Chicago. Eighth time’s a charm right?”
