‘Do you know how tough it is to find a hill in Indy?’ says Cubs GM
After an extremely disappointing 2009, Cubs fans are desperate for good news this off-season. Cubs GM Jim Hendry failed to deliver a Milton Bradley trade or key free agent signing at the 2009 Winter Meetings in Indianapolis, which end today. He did, however, have a blast.
“Wednesday was no doubt the high point,” said Hendry. “A bunch of us decided to call it a day early and take in some sledding.”
While fans might not see this as big of an accomplishment as, say, trading Milton Bradley would have been, Hendry disagreed.
“Have you ever been to Indy? It’s all flat land,” said Hendry. “It’s really, really tough to find a hill there. But we did.”
The Cubs GM and two staffers found an abandoned trash heap just outside nearby Fishers, Ind., where they had what Hendry called “hours and hours of great times.”
Hendry also said critics need to ease up on him.
“Look, I have no payroll left and a ticking time bomb in the outfield who no other team wants,” said Hendry. “I know I have my work cut out for me. Just let me chill out a little bit and I’ll be able focus the rest of the off-season. I swear.”
