Tom Ricketts has much to be thankful for this Thanksgiving, celebrating the holiday for the first time as owner of the Cubs. However, communications with his staff took a wrong turn in preparation for the Ricketts’ big holiday feast.
“I asked one of my staffers to pick up a big, spicy turkey full of stuffing that will keep us full for weeks,” said Ricketts. “A few hours later — much to my surprise — I found Milton Bradley on a rotisserie at my front door with a box of Stovetop and some cranberry sauce. It wasn’t what I expected, but I can see the confusion.”
Ricketts sent the staffer out again for another attempt at procuring an enticing bird. Although he returned without a turkey, the results were much more pleasing.
“I can see he was still a little confused when he came back with free agent outfielder Marlon Byrd,” said Ricketts. “He may not add to our Thanksgiving feast, but I admit he was a more appropriate choice and far less obtrusive.”
