It’s the moment they’ve all been waiting for: After five years of second-guessing the only Cubs manager to win a World Series since Teddy Roosevelt’s second term, thousands of armchair coaches are hoping to apply to replace Joe Maddon.

“Finally!” said 63-year-old Francis Martin of Niles. “Now that they got rid of that moron Maddon someone with common sense like me can take his place and guide the Cubs back to the promised land every single season.”

Martin’s sentiment was echoed on social media by countless others who firmly they could do a better job than the three-time manager of the year.

Martin added that he planned to apply for the newly vacated manager position as soon as he could find the job opening listed on Cubs.com.
