With all three games this season going into overtime, Chicago Blackhawks rookies Henri Jokiharju and Dominik Kahun still have no idea that only three periods are required to complete a contest.
“It’s so crazy that American hockey makes you play games broken up into four quarters,” said 19-year-old Jokiharju, who is originally from Finland. “And why is the fourth quarter always sudden death? I just don’t get it.”
Kahun was equally confused.
“Back home in the Czech Republic, we play three periods and then go out for a few Pilsner Urquells and then chase around our beautiful women who also look a little like vampires,” said Kahun. “None of this fourth period stuff.”
Sources say team captain Jonathan Toews has no interest in clearly up the confusion.
“Those two guys have already combined for seven assists,” said Toews. “This is a bounce-back year for us so as long as those guys keep up the production, I don’t really care how long they think the games are.”
