Kicking off the start of training camp for the 2014-2015 NHL season, Blackhawks Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane led world renowned circus performer Nik Wallenda on a tightrope walk from the United Center to the Lugo Hotel on Blue Island Avenue in the historic Pilsen neighborhood.
Wallenda, known as “The King of the Wire,” has made hundreds of tightrope walks, including one in which he set a Guinness World Record on a 250-foot rope while riding a bicycle.
“To be a winger on a line anchored by Captain Serious and Kaner is tougher than when I roped the Brooklyn Bridge to LaGuardia Airport in 1999,” Wallenda said.
While neither of the two Hawks stars had ever walked a tight rope, they were unconcerned. “This was a helluva lot easier than taking hits from a couple of goons like Clune and John Scott,” Toews said.
Kane was even more confident, making the walk with a “fully loaded Margarita in one hand and a gin and tonic in the other.”
