After years of acrimony, the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre have apparently settled any long standing grudges. Current CEO Mark Murphy reportedly extended the olive branch as Favre’s famous number 4 will be retired amongst such Packers greats as Hornung, Starr and Nitschke.
Fearful of any possible backlash of boorish booing from the local cheeseheads, Favre’s special night will be held where he had so many special nights, Soldier Field.
The Packers plan on a video tribute that purportedly will show former Bears defensive backs, Thomas Smith and Marty Carter, continually burned by the flamethrower. Additionally, highlights of Favre beating a too-slow Bryan Cox on the blitz for another score will be included in the tribute.
Scheduled to speak will be former Bears coaches, Dick Jauron and Dave Wannstedt.
Jauron laconically stated, “He was just a great player. I’m not sure anyone furthered his career more than me. He’ll be a first ballot Hall of Famer because of my defensive schemes.”
Wannstedt said, “Alonzo [Spellman] had him I thought on a few plays. [Paul] Grasmanis too. I still believe [John] Thierry can be a hell of a player. I do.”
“Next question,” said former Bears coach Lovie Smith, when asked about Favre’s future induction.
The retirement ceremony, if successful, will be a blueprint in the future when current Packers quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, decides to retire.
When reached for comment, Favre was too emotional to speak as he was agonizing whether or not to shoot another Wranglers commercial.
