Iowa Cubs honorary bat boy Chase Fahey thought the best day of his life was when he threw out the first pitch at Principal Park and handed uber-prospects Kris Bryant and Javier Beaz bats before they headed to the on deck circle this week. One Cubs fan thinks that one day was just a sample size of what’s to come.
Ben Stace, Elgin resident and a self-proclaimed lifelong Cubs fan, pointed out that Fahey could fill a hole the big league Cubs have right now.
“This Fahey kid has the talents of a young Darren Baker,” Stace said. “Plus he has had success helping offensive struggles.”
Fahey was the bat boy during the I-Cubs recent walk-off victory against the Omaha Storm Chasers, in which the Cubs had 11 hits total and two home runs. His perfect record when the bat boy may not have earned everyone’s respect.
When asked for comment on the possible promotion, Iowa Cubs manager Marty Pevey spoke candidly about Fahey.
“Who is that?” Pevey asked.
Stace has been informed of that the Iowa Cubs only keep the bat boy for that one game, to which he responded “Classic Hoyer/Epstein move.”
“They will stick with these other scrubs the Walgreens Co. brings us just for the draft pick,” Satce said.
Fahey has not been asked back to fulfill the open Bat Boy spot and was not allowed to comment due to lack of parental supervision at the time.
