When the Cubs hired Ron Coomer this winter to be their radio man, they knew they were in for some changes.
“You don’t get much bigger than Ron Coomer,” said Crane Kenney, the Cubs president of business operations. “The guy’s a rock star so we’re going to have to make some adjustments.”
Kenney said the Cubs plan to add several full-time security staffers to protect Coomer from the crush of fans they anticipate will follow him relentlessly when the season begins in a few weeks.
“If Spring Training is any indication, things are going to be crazy around Wrigley when Coom Dawg is on the scene,” said Kenney. “Word out of Mesa is that he got recognized at a local In-N-Out Burger and a Fry’s grocery store in the same day. That’s huge star power right there.”
