The Cubs reluctantly admitted Wednesday that a minor design flaw will force them to demolish their new $84 million Spring Training facility before even one game was played there.

“Due to the position of home plate, the sun blinds hitters during afternoons in spring,” said owner Tom Ricketts. “We need to adjust the entire park 25 degrees to the east. Unfortunately, the only way to do that is knock it down and start all over again.”

The Cubs will now move back to Hohokam Stadium, which was planned to be closed for renovations until the A’s move there in 2015.

“Hohokam is outdated, but at least our hitters can see pitches,” said Ricketts. “Sure, more of our guys strike out half the time anyway, but by moving back to Hohokam the only excuse they have for whiffing is their own lack of talent.”
