Just minutes after the Packers beat the Bears in a see-saw battle that decided the NFC North champion, ChicagoBears.com accidentally posted a news item saying that now-free agent QB Jay Cutler won’t be offered a contract with the team this off-season. The post was deleted within minutes but a few fans were able to screen-capture it for posterity.

“The Chicago Bears have decided to go in a different direction at the quarterback position heading into 2014,” the post quoted GM Phil Emery as saying. “We thank Jay for his time with the Bears and wish him well wherever he winds up.”

The article went on to say the Bears plan to pursue a short-term deal with backup Josh McCown, explore the free agent market and draft for other quarterbacks, and invest in the defense, namely through the five-year, $50 million contract extension awarded to free safety Chris Conte shortly after Sunday’s loss to Green Bay.
