It was little surprise that the Kentucky Wildcats were voted college basketball’s top team in the first USA Today/ESPN coaches’ poll of the season.
What was a shock to many was the Charlotte Bobcats cracking the top 25 placing 23rd just ahead of McNeese State University and the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Team owner Michael Jordan was ecstatic.
“I never dreamed we could get this far in such a short time,” Jordan told the Charlotte Observer. “When we won two games in a row during the final week of last season, beating the Wizards and Hornets, I knew we would earn this respect.”
Jordan said his team has lofty goals for the upcoming season.
“We hope to finish in the top 8 in the Maui Invitational Christmas Tournament, and then beat St. Anthony’s High School in the Jersey City Shootout.”
