After acquiring prospects Avisail Garcia from the Tigers and Leury Garcia from Texas, White Sox GM Rick Hahn said by the start of the 2015 season the team intends to field a starting nine all with the surname of Garcia.
“We’ll build on the two young Garcia’s and hope to acquire more Garcia’s before the end of this year’s trading deadline,” Hahn told WhiteSox.com. “In fact, we’re attempting to get Freddy Garcia from Baltimore and back in a Sox uniform soon.”
A team source said Hahn is trying to coax former major leaguer Karim Garcia away from Naranjeros de Hermosillo of the Mexican league. The 38-year old outfielder spent nine years in the majors with five different clubs.
“Karim’s killing it south of the border. He has 12 homers so far this season, which is like hitting 35 or 40 here.”
When asked if there are enough Garcia’s available for the team to sign, Hahn said his next option is to explore Johnsons and Hernandezes.
“We’ve got it covered. However, we have no intention of signing any Dunns or Viciedos.”
