Thousands of Cubs fans from miles around gathered in Wrigleyville today to celebrate the trading of beleaguered reliever Carlos Marmol, who was dealt to the Dodgers.
“I have no idea who they got for him but as long as it’s not Carlos Marmol, I’m happy,” said Steven Carter, who drove from Schaumburg to show his support of the trade with a “Hell no! He won’t blow (saves for us anymore)!”-sign.
Fans gathering around Wrigley also sang songs and burned candles to commemorate Marmol’s departure.
“The Cubs did well today,” said another fan. “Now if they could just figure out a way to unload roughly 20 other guys on the big-league roster I think we’ll start seeing some progress.”
