In what has been a very challenging year for the National Hockey League, the latest controversial move by Commissioner Gary Bettman is a decision that bans teams taking part in a pregame warm-up.
An incident prior to the start of Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final when two of the league’s major stars were injured prompted the commissioner to take action.
Minutes before puck drop, Bruins’ defenseman Zdeno Chara tripped over teammate Milan Lucic after performing what appeared to be a Triple Lutz with a Camel spin. Chara needed six stitches in his head to repair the wound.
Meanwhile, Chicago’s Marian Hossa suffered an upper body injury for no apparent reason aside from the fact that he was standing on the ice.
“We’ve completed an exhaustive and thorough investigation of the incidents,” Bettman said. “The problem has been narrowed down to either the rough ice surface, or to just two guys from Eastern Europe who can’t skate.”
