In a somewhat startling move, Blackhawks Coach Joel Quenneville will replace goalie Corey Crawford with a single goalpost for the Stanley Cup Finals Game 3 in Boston on Monday.
“Look, Corey has played admirably, but if it wasn’t for the goalpost, we would be down two games to none,” said Quenneville. “So I think it deserves a chance, don’t you?”
Crawford says he understands the decision and will do whatever it takes for the team to succeed.
“It’s a team game, we have to remember that,” he said. “And if my pal, left goalpost, can pull it out, then I’m all for it.”
Owner Rocky Wirtz said it is a move that brings back memories of his father.
“Wow, my dad would really appreciate this. I mean, how much do you have to pay a goalpost? It would have elated him. It’s a nice Father’s Day surprise for me.”
