With the 19th pick in the MLB draft, the St. Louis Cardinals selected pitcher Marco Gonzalez of Gonzaga University.
“We have Marco penciled in to pitch in the third game of the 2013 National League Championship Series in October,” Manager Mike Matheny told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
Asked if he thought he was being somewhat presumptuous for predicting an NLCS appearance for his team as early as June, Matheny said, “Are you kidding me? Last I checked, we were in the same division as the Cubs, Brewers and Pirates.”
“Furthermore, Dusty Baker still manages the Reds.”
