After an abysmal Game 7 performance which saw him foul out with just seven points, Pacers forward Paul George told reporters that his team’s 99-76 loss to the Miami Heat was largely the result of the team having watched the most recent episode of HBO’s “Game of Thrones” just before opening tip-off.
“I mean, no spoilers obviously, but for those of you who saw the episode … that last scene, oh my God, right?” a still shaken George told the media after the game. “That was out of nowhere! Just, totally crazy. Needless to say, when we were done with the episode, man, we just weren’t in a place to go out and get that win, you know?”
Pacers coach Frank Vogel agreed with this account, telling reporters, “They were clearly really deflated by everything that went down in ‘The Rains of Castamere’ and nothing was helping. I even showed that that seen when Daenerys Targaryen killed all those slavers with her dragons, which was awesome, to bring their spirits back up, but nothing was working. I even showed them a video of this Asian kid playing the theme song on a violin, and that didn’t even work. So it wasn’t surprising when the Heat eviscerated just like…”
Before he could finish his analogy, George stepped in to shout, “Hey man, I said no spoilers!”
