In a surprise move, the NFL moved its 2014 draft to May 8 from the third week in April when it has been held for several years.
“The ‘Mrs.’ and I have a 25th wedding anniversary vacation planned that week in April,” commissioner Roger Goodell told the NFL Network. “Besides, I have about 250,000 Marriott points about to expire, so I need to cash them in pretty quick.”
Goodell said the league considered holding the draft during the first week of April, but that idea was dismissed. “I’ve got Final Four tickets,” Goodell admitted.
“What’s the hurry? It’s not like any of the guys who are getting drafted are still enrolled in college after the bowl season ends, so it’s no biggie.”
