After the organization fired him this offseason, former Chicago Bears head coach Lovie Smith has expressed his excitement at taking a few years off from the stress and travel inherent with coaching in the National Football League, and eagerly awaits his opportunity to join FOX’s NFL Sunday Pregame crew.
“I think I’d be a great addition to the team,” Smith morosely told reporters. “I mean, I can picture it now. Curt, Mike, Howie, Terry, Jimmy, and myself. All cracking jokes. Jokes about football. Oh, how they would laugh.”
Smith added that, though he respects all of the NFL broadcast teams, he felt that FOX would be the best fit, due to its more zany and comedic nature. If there isn’t an open spot for him on the main broadcast team, Smith added he would be open to having a weekly comedy skit, like the ones currently done by Rob Riggle.
“People think I’m a pretty serious guy, but I’m actually a pretty funny guy. Look, here’s a joke. Why did the chicken cross the road? Because he couldn’t read a Cover 2 defense scheme. That’s a little football humor for you, you see.” Smith then blinked and slightly raised his eyebrows to prove that he actually has the ability to move the muscles in his face.
