In an effort to address fan concerns and also capitalize on a popular trend, the NFL has decided to ditch referees altogether and let the new iPhone 5 call games.
“Working closely with Apple, we’ve developed the new iRef 5, which is much sleeker than human beings and gets the call right 68% of the time,” said NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. “That’s three times as accurate as our union refs, let alone the replacements.”
Goodell said the only concern is the iRef’s propensity to drop a penalty call right in the middle of the announcement, but “it’s something we’ll live with since the design is like way cool and stuff.”
Added the commissioner: “Penalties never looked this clear thanks to the Retina display!”
