Blackhawks blogger Jay Syzmanski — founder of the blog Blackhawk Backtawk — had an epiphany while writing his wrap-up of the championship flag-raising ceremony last weekend.
“I should definitely have gotten a call concerning my day with the Stanley Cup,” said Syzmanski. “I always thought of myself as the Patrick Kane of the blogosphere. But now I’m starting to think I’m just another hardworking and undervalued Brent Sopel, but even he got a day with Lord Stanley’s Cup.”
Syzmanski has spent much of the summer publicly documenting his plans for the Stanley Cup via blog. The last installment included, “filling it with a 70/30 mix of Coke and cherry Slurpee at 7-Eleven, grabbing some midnight breakfast at Denny’s and finally talking to that waitress at the bar.” The blog concluded that his time with the Cup would be “legen … wait for it … DARY.”
Those around Syzmanski fear he might be delusional.
“He got free 300-level tickets once from his web host and ever since he’s viewed himself as the president of what he calls ‘Blackhawks Nation,’” said Syzmanski’s brother Matt. “Don’t tell him the Blackhawks don’t know who he is. It’ll crush him.”
