In a last-ditch effort to counteract the voting barrage of the entire nation of Japan, White Sox media relations today began pushing the #TakeJake hashtag on Twitter, with each tweet counting as a vote for Jake Peavy. The effort failed as the Sox veteran lost Japanese phenom Yu Darvish in the Last Man Voting for the All-Star Game.
However, in a move described as “bush league” across social media outlets, several White Sox staffers also began including a #ScrewYu hashtag, unaware they were simply infuriating millions of Japanese voters and inspiring them to vote for Darvish.
“It may have backfired” said one anonymous source. “It might actually be better off that he didn’t make it because it would pretty much guarantee the American League being shutout given Jake’s run support this year.”
