Impressed by the Coyotes’ goaltender’s flopping performance Saturday night against Chicago, the Vancouver Canucks acquired Mike Smith from Phoenix in exchange for goaltender Robert Luongo and a conditional draft pick.
“Mike Smith is an outstanding actor … I mean goaltender … and after seeing his work … I mean play … Saturday night, we knew he was the missing link and would be a perfect fit in Vancouver,” said Canucks GM Mike Gillis. “Plus, Roberto can’t stop a beach ball from going in the net right now, so this is clearly an upgrade. We look forward to Smitty joining the team in Los Angeles and trying to save our season for us.”
