After again failing to reach the NCAA Tournament yet again despite a sometimes promising season, Bill Carmody’s Northwestern Wildcats were forced to settle for the NIT, but they weren’t the least bit disappointed.
“Coach told us ‘NIT’ meant ‘Northwestern is Terrific,’ so we’re thrilled to have gotten into it,” said John Shurma, Northwestern’s all-time leading scorer. “It’s so good we didn’t make it into the NCAA Tournament, which means ‘Northwestern Can’t Attend Anyway,’ at least according to coach it does.”
