After being informed that he will be allowed to interview potential GM candidates to replace Jerry Angelo, Bears head coach Lovie Smith immediately asked how many times he could call timeout during the process.
“Like maybe one or two per interview?” he asked. “Wait, hold on, timeout. You know it takes me 5-6 hours to process the events around me, so I need plenty of stoppages when interviewing guys.”
According to Bears president Ted Phillips, having a deliberate coach known for not being able to manage events in real time will be a huge draw for GM candidates.
