After firing manager Mike Quade, the Chicago CubsĀ  announced they are holding a contest for their large fan-base in order to pick a new manager. The Cubs placed a full page advertisement in all of the major Chicago papers and USA Today to spread the word about their “Manager for aYear” promotion sponsored by Chicagoland Dunkin Donuts locations. The contest is open to all fans aged 10-85.

“I am so excited about this new ‘Manager for a Year’ promotion we have come up with in the front office,” said new Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein. “I can’t really think of any viable managerial candidates for this team other than the wildly successful manager I used to work with, Terry Francona. This is why I and Jed Hoyer decided to open up the search a little bit to our loyal and smart fans. I’m sure we’ll find a great manager-in-the-rough through this new promotion. Also, I am excited to continue my close business relationship with Dunkin Donuts that I am hoping to carry over from my days in Boston.”

Entrants of the contest only have to complete a short, personal survey on Cubs.com to enter. This is for tax purposes, as whoever wins the contest will be offered a four-year, $20 million contract upon being chosen. The winner will be selected at random out of all participants and this is the sole way the new Cubs manager will be picked.
