The Grateful Dead today announced three shows at Soldier Field this summer as a farewell run and commemoration of the band’s 50th anniversary. The news came as a shock to Bears fans who associated anything “dead” at Soldier Field with the Chicago Bears.
“As soon as I heard the Dead were showing up to Soldier Field again I was all like, ‘Yeah. Jay Cutler, Mel Tucker and that whole thing. Tell me about it,'” said Chicagoan Mike Fitzgerald, “but then I was relieved to learn they meant the Grateful Dead band and not the walking dead Chicago Bears.”
Added Fitzgerald: “It’ll be nice to see an enjoyable Dead appearance at Soldier Field for once.”
