The Chicago Cubs today announced that Joe Maddon Trio will front Foo Fighters at the grunge band’s Wrigley Field concert next August.
The former Tampa Bay Rays manager, who recently opted out of his contract with the club, is lead singer and bass player for the band he formed last year with ex-MLB skippers Jim Leyland and Rene Lacheman.
“We’re what you’d call a Thai-Elvis fusion,” Maddon told The Reader, an alternative Chicago newspaper.
“Our rendition of ‘Hunka Hunka Burnin Curry Pad’ kills.”
While denying he’s talked with the Chicago Cubs about taking the job as the club’s manager, Maddon’s agent confirmed reports that the trio is booked for gigs this winter at Metro, Vic Theatre and the Riviera, where they’ll headline Uptownpallooza with Black Veil Brides, Teenage Bottlerocket and Methadones.
