Having already called up touted prospects this season, including Javier Baez, Arismendy Alcantara, and Jorge Soler, the Cubs have continued their trend of calling up young talent to the Majors by announcing that the entire roster of the Little League World Series U.S. Champions, Jackie Robinson West, would join the big league club in time for Thursday afternoon’s game against the Cincinnati Reds.
“The entire city of Chicago has been captivated and awe-struck by the level of dedication, sportsmanship and talent that Jackie Robinson West displayed throughout this year’s Little League World Series tournament,” said Cubs President Theo Epstein. “We can only hope they can bring that spark and winning history as the newest, and youngest, members of the Chicago Cubs.”
The new players, who range in age from 11 to 13 years old, are expected to compete for starting positions at most roster spots.
