Clippers owner Donald Sterling was banned from the NBA for life and fined $2.5 million by Commissioner Adam Silver today, who stressed what he called the most valuable takeaway from this shameful episode.
“Today we’re sending a power message to the world: If you’re going to say racist things, make sure it’s not being illegally recorded without your knowledge by your mistress,” said Silver. “We know our league and the rest of the world are filled with people at all levels who have racist views, but for the love of god, make sure you’re just thinking them instead of actually saying them.”
Added Silver: “Because if that happens, it puts us all in a bad spot and I’m forced to fly off the handle. Nobody wants that. Especially me.”
