Cubs manager Ricky “Don’t call me Rick” Renteria is pleased that the first loss of the season is out of the way after the Pirates beat Chicago 1-0 in extra innings in the 2014 opener.
Renteria praised his team’s effort in defeat. “We hung tough for nine innings,” the always-positive new skipper said. “The fact that we lost by just one run makes me feel really good about the rest of the season.”
“I’m very confident that it will go just as smoothly for the next 99 losses.”
