The Cubs signed reliever James McDonald to a minor league deal Friday, with an invite to spring training where he could make the big league club’s opening day roster. If he does, it virtually guarantees all fans will be booing the shit out of him at Wrigley in just a few short months.
“We’ve not made a lot of waves yet this winter,” said Cubs President Theo Epstein. “We needed to shore up our middle relief and give fans a scapegoat for all our woes this season. The McDonald signing does both.”
