A Chicago radio station reported that Tom Ricketts learned manager Dale Sveum was let go by the team after a former college classmate informed the owner of the firing on his LinkedIn page.
“I was updating my profile on LinkedIn when I got a message from an old fraternity brother from the University of Chicago telling me Dale got the axe,” the Cubs chairman said. “I couldn’t believe it.”
Asked if he was angry to learn the news on a social media site rather than directly from President Theo Epstein or GM Jed Hoyer, Ricketts said he wasn’t at all upset.
“No way. Those guys don’t tell me anything,”said Ricketts. “I found out [Alfonso] Soriano got traded after seeing it posted on Tumblr.”
