In addition to suffering through another long Cubs season of losing and not receiving a vote of confidence from team President Theo Epstein, beleaguered manager Dale Sveum is the butt of a cruel joke by the Cubs front office. The team has hired a lookalike of Yankees manager Joe Girardi to walk around Wrigleyville and make Sveum paranoid.
And it has worked.
“I’ve seen [Girardi] everywhere around here,” Sveum said. “Across the street from Wrigley at McDonald’s, looking at a couple houses in the area that are for sale, and also at the bar I frequent to drown my sorrows after another loss.”
Girardi, in the final year of his contract as manager of the Yankees, played coy when asked to comment.
“Who’s Dale Sveum?” he replied, then smirked and walked away.
