White Sox outfielder Dayan Viciedo informed the team that he has legally changed his first name from Dayan to Chelsea.
The Cuban-born outfielder said he chose a new name because he was tired of English speaking people thinking Dayan is a girl’s name. “In Cuba, Dayan is the most masculine of men’s names, just as a strong name for a man in the United States is Melvin or Clarence.”
Viciedo said he chose the name Chelsea after reading it in an article in Glamour magazine.
