On the heels of Mike Ditka addressing Bears players at a recent practice, Marc Trestman invited former head coach Dave Wannstedt to Halas Hall to check out the newly paved parking lot.
“I thought it was only fair to reach out to Dave,” Trestman told Bears.com. “After all, his Bears team has one more playoff appearance than mine.”
“What a great honor it is for me to be invited back,” Wannstedt said in an interview from his room at the America’s Best Inn, Waukegan.
“Unfortunately, the only person at Halas Hall that I know from my days there was Old Johnny, the groundskeeper. He thought I was Abe Gibron.”
Asked to comment on his experience, Wannstedt said he was most impressed with the striping of parking spaces. “It amazes me how they can put yellow stripes far enough apart to accommodate 75 SUVs.”
While Trestman wouldn’t say if other former coaches might visit the complex, it is rumored that Lovie Smith will come in next week to examine replanted flower beds with Dick Jauron inspecting newly installed urinals and shower stalls.
