Saying the trophy will look great on the mantel of his fireplace, Patrick Kane continues to seek answers to the question, “Who is Conn Smythe?” the winner of the NHL’s playoff MVP asked in a recent press conference.
“Seriously, I must have asked 20 people about this Conn Smythe guy and no one knows who he is.”
That was until team owner Rocky Wirtz told Kane that Smythe was the former owner, general manager and coach of the Toronto Maple Leafs during the early years of the National Hockey League.
The Hawks’ forward seemed surprised by the revelation.
“Really?” Kane responded. “I swore that con Smythe was the name of a fellow inmate of mine when I spent time in the Buffalo jail in 2009.”
