The often-feisty and clearly agitated manager told Gregg to step into his office, upon which one Cub player heard “shouting, fist-banging and a whole lot of dirty words I can’t even begin to pronounce.”
“Next thing I see is Theo Epstein and Jed Hoyer running into Dale’s office, then more shouting,” the player said. “Last words I hear are ‘you’re suspended.’”
When asked about the incident, Gregg, who was recalled from the minors on April 17, said, “I didn’t even know we had seven wins this season.”
