In an ironic twist, television ratings for the Blackhawks game against the LA Kings during the fourth game of the Western Conference final dropped dramatically.
With more than 300,000 viewers watching game three, ratings plummeted more than 33 percent to fewer than 200,000 during the Hawks dramatic 3-2 win in the fourth game.
“I just don’t get it,” an NBC Sports executive told media columnist Robert Feder. “Aren’t there like 20 million people in Chicago? And with the Cubs and Sox sucking so badly, where in the name of Stan Mikita are the Hawks fans?”
In a poll of Chicago area residents about their viewing choices during game four, 82 percent said they watched a rerun of last Sunday’s episode of “Game of Thrones.” Eight percent tuned into “Swamp People” when Troy Landry’s dukey was bitten off by a 12-foot gator. Another 8 percent viewed reruns of the 1976 PBS mini-series, “I Claudius.”
Two percent said they didn’t watch TV as they were taking advantage of the 50% off spring sale at the Sears store at Woodfield Mall.
The remainder of respondents said they viewed a VHS tape of the 1985 Chicago Bears 46-10 win over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XX.
