Cubs pitcher Edwin Jackson was so upset about his poor start to the 2013 season that he changed his name to Ed until he got that elusive first win, which he finally secured on May 11.
“Man, it had gotten so bad that Dale [Sveum] was having all my teammates call me Edlose until I won my first game,” said Edwin/Ed/Edlose. “What would’ve happened if I didn’t win at all this season? Would I have had to change my name to Edwinless? I thought I could blame the bullpen for my record, but Dale wouldn’t let me. Luckily, I don’t have to worry about that any more!”
Jackson was so happy to get his first win that after the game he treated the whole team to Dairy Queen Blizzards. His teammates responded by dubbing him Ed “One Win” Jackson.
