Rosemont Mayor Brad Stephens offered a sweet deal to Tom Ricketts on Monday, hoping the Cubs owner will relocate his franchise to the near northwest suburb. Tuesday morning the deal got sweeter when Stephens announced season tickets for the Rosemont Cubs have sold out for the 2014 season.
“Rosemont can be home to more than sprawling office parks, rampant corruption and extremely low-flying 747s,” said Stephens. “It can also be home to Major League Baseball.”
While the Cubs have not publicly reciprocated an interest in Rosemont as the team’s new home, Stephens decided to go ahead and start selling tickets anyway.
“This is Rosemont. We don’t let legal technicalities get in our way,” said Stephens. “If the Cubs decide not to move here, we’ll just transfer all these ticket purchases into some of the other top-flight sports team we host here, like DePaul basketball, the Chicago Wolves or the Rush. Problem solved.”
