For the past six weeks, Bears tight end Kellen Davis has been aggressively lobbying the NFL to create a “fall downs” statistic, in hopes the new stat will demonstrate his value.
According to Davis, this new statistic would look at players and their ability to fall down on breaks, trip over air, get pancaked on blocking plays and make nothing happen after a catch. The current season NFL leader is Davis with 73 fall downs, and the next closest player is teammate Devin Hester, with 34.
“There is some real value in falling down,” said Davis. “Ask Jay Cutler what it’s like to not fall down until you can’t remember your name.”
