Stephen A. Smith sure can chirp with the best of them, but now the energetic, passionate analyst wants to be a little more involved during these playoffs. After watching NBA officials Danny Crawford, Derrick Collins and Ed Malloy dish out technical fouls as if they were granted a raise for each, “Stephen A.” wants a piece of the pie.
“It’s as if they were getting paid per T,” Smith ranted on ESPN late Tuesday night. “If they ruin the game I love, the game I love, it’s PATHETIC.”
Smith then loudly and slowly spelled “pathetic,” to “get the point across to the viewers at home.”
Smith has asked commissioner David Stern to look the other way, just as he did during the infamous Patrick Ewing draft lottery. NBA fans feel the same way, wondering if the officials are even qualified to be on the same court as such talent in a game features All-Stars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, Kevin Garnett, and Paul Pierce.
“I want their cell phone numbers, Skype addresses or whatever” Smith added, he also needed to change suits during the interview, always glancing over to see if his stylist can add some pinstripes. “I would be the best ref on the court.”
