A bit of house cleaning has begun in the wake of season-long struggles by Cub pitchers, Starlin Castro and a few other fielders to get the ball cleanly to first base. As of today, the organization has let go of long-time Tossing-Ball-to-First-Base Coach Bobby Bumpkin.
“Tough decision. Bobby’s been around the game for a long time,” said Cubs GM Jed Hoyer. “The stories I’ve heard about his time here with Jacque Jones. When it came to getting the ball to first, Bobby would always say, ‘Higher! Now a little lower. You got it.’”
The team will forgo hiring another coach and instead invite a Little League team to Wrigley to run a clinic for the players.
