After a recent doubleheader against the Giants in which the Mets were swept, losing both games by a combined 13-3 score, the team has officially changed its 50 year-old moniker to “Same Old Mets” in order to embrace what fans are saying about the team right now. For their entire existence up until today, the Same Old Mets had been known as the New York Metropolitans, or Mets, for short.
However, with the team playing down to low expectations, the fans and people surrounding the franchise have been using the phrase to describe how the play on the field of late has mirrored the extremely inept Mets of seasons past.
“I like it,” said GM Sandy Alderson. “It really captures the essence of the club!”
